Choosing the right means of transport for engine shipping

When shipping engines, it is important that you remove all fluids from the engine before shipping. These include, for example, the engine oil or the coolant. Once these fluids have been drained, it is also advisable to close all openings in the engine.

Once your engine is prepared for transport, you must then decide on which means of transport you would like to ship the engine. Important for this decision is that goods with a unit weight of 30 kg or more must be able to be moved under with a lift truck.

After you have decided on a means of transport, the next step is to pack the engine appropriately for shipping. You will find out how to proceed in concrete terms in the lower part of this page.

      The collection of the engine

For engine shipping, our freight forwarders will usually pick up your goods from the curb. For this purpose, it is imperative that shipments weighing 30 kg or more can either be moved under by themselves or placed on a pallet for shipping.

      The delivery of the engine

Like the pickup, the delivery of the engine shipping is free curbside. Our forwarding agents unload the shipment at the roadside delivery address and obtain the signature for acceptance.

      Packing tips for bicycle shipping

If you have chosen a streetcar transport means in the form of a pallet, you still need to properly pack the engine afterwards.

      1. Protect the sensitive edges of the motor with a edge protector and then wrap it with a bubble wrap.
      2. The packed motor is then placed in the center of the pallet. For this purpose, ideally use an additional holder.
      3. Then secure the packed motor firmly to the pallet using tension belts .

For cushioning and further protection of the engine we recommend the following packing materials:

      • Cardboard
      • Adhesive tape
      • Bracket on which the motor can be securely positioned
      • Tension belts
      • Handling advice for careful handling of the goods

We also recommend this procedure when shipping a gearbox. Again, it is important that you drain the fluids ahead of time and pack the gearbox appropriately for shipping. Be sure to consider the packaging tips listed here.

      Insure engine for shipment

It is important to know that there is no standard insurance when shipping, but in case of damage or loss there is only liability according to the German Freight Forwarders' Standard Terms and Conditions (ADSP).

Therefore, we recommend you to cover yourself with transport insurance through Cargoboard for expensive products. You can easily and uncomplicatedly add these during the booking process.
